Hi, I’m David

Get to know me, I am excited to get to know you.

My Story

In my early thirties, on an uneventful night, sitting on the couch with my wife, I put two fingers on my pulse and looked over at her. “I think I’m having a panic attack,” I said. My wife laughed because she thought I was joking. I wasn’t showing any signs of having a panic attack; my face looked cool, calm, and collected. The same place I learned how to check my pulse was where I learned not to react, or more accurately, not to show my reactions outwardly.
A couple of months later, while climbing up Glacier Peak, I slipped. I was able to steer myself into some bushes and avoid a 1000 ft slide into the awaiting trees. My buddy and I laughed it off. He told me my face was unmoved throughout the ordeal, cool, calm, and collected, and suddenly it hit me why I had a panic attack. My wife and I were talking about starting a family. I realized that being cool, calm, and collected was great for 1 percent of life. But if I wanted to raise kids, I had to leave the mindset of a soldier at the door.
I had tried all types of therapy and had a solid background in therapeutics myself from my days working as a mentor in a therapeutic program, but no matter what I tried, nothing seemed to work until… I came across Brainspotting, and within 6 sessions, I felt a real shift.

Where to find me outside office hours

When I am not working, I am probably tinkering with something or other in my shop. I love making things out of discarded things (I once made a pottery wheel out of an old sewing machine motor and a swamp cooler), mostly wood. Also, be it hiking, biking, rafting, or climbing, I love being outside, especially with my one-year-old baby and 7-year-old dog.

My background and approach

I’ve had many different career iterations, from soldier to paramedic, to field mentor for struggling teens. The through line has always been working with and for people. Being a generalist and a jack-of-all-trades has helped me develop a unique and adaptable approach to finding solutions to complex problems. Whether it’s woodworking or working with people, I am always curious about how what or who I am working with ticks. No piece of wood is the same, and each piece requires an attuned craftsman, and so do people. Every person contains a world, that’s why I love cooperating with you to find your tailor-made solution. As far as certifications go, I am a Brainspotting Practitioner and Consultant for certification. This means I help certify practitioners/therapists in the technique. I also have years of experience in more traditional therapeutic approaches, working with teens as a mentor, with DBT, trauma-informed care, and the seven-challenges decision-making model.
